Rootbeer Braised Porkchops

Pop and pork are both bad for you…so you probably shouldn’t eat this…but it IS delicious, so if you decide to make it, I won’t tell!

We used a high quality root beer (yes such a thing does exist) made with organic cane sugar, NOT high fructose corn syrup (glucose-fructose)

Fresh out of the oven! Sticky and sweet!

Ingredients:

  1. 5-6 pork chops

  2. 1 tsp salt

  3. 3 tbsp brown sugar (like demerara)

  4. 1/2 tsp dried sage

  5. 1/8 tsp ground cloves

  6. 1 tsp dried thyme

  7. pinch ground nutmeg

  8. 1/8 tsp cinnamon

  9. 1 tsp chili powder

  10. 1/2 tsp pepper

  11. 1 bottle good quality old fashioned root beer (12 oz. 355 ml)

KooK it:

preheat oven to 225 F

Place pork chops in a single lager in a baking dish.

Mix all other ingredients together in a bowl and pour over chops.

Bake, covered for 90 minutes.

Optional: After chops are done, you can remove the liquid to a saucepan. mix 1 tbsp of cornstarch with 3 tbsp of cold liquid (water, root beer, etc.) and blend with the porkchop liquid. Heat over medium, stirring, until thickened. Makes for a delicious sauce.

Sweet, salty and great served with a Caprese Salad
